THE MEKONG DELTA IN 1 DAY: VINH TRANG PAGODA – BEN TRE ISLAND (lunch)

  Departure from your hotel around 8:00 and crossing of part of the Mekong Delta to arrive in the small village of Phong, where the famous Vinh Trang Pagoda was built in 1849 amid beautiful gardens. The pagoda architecture consist of 5 buildings in an harmonious combination of local and European styles. It contains numerous precious wooden statues, including those of 18 Arhats carved in 1907 and representing the peak of the Mekong Delta sculpture period.

We then reach Ben Tre Island, the large island south of Mytho, famous for its coconut tree plantations and orchards.
   

We ride a boat on the Ben Tre River to observe the life of the local population (visit of markets, a small brick factory, coconut product factory, etc.). Continuation of the boat ride till the small villages of Cai Son and Nhon Than, where we visit a family mat workshop. Strolling through the peaceful countryside and lunch in the home of Mr. Hai Hao. After lunch, we sail through in a row boat on the canals lined with water palm trees, an perfect image of the Delta. Return to the car for the trip back to Saigon (or shorter visit to go to Can Tho and take the Can Tho- Phu Quoc flight)

THE MEKONG DELTA IN 2 DAYS: BEN TRE ISLAND - CAN THO – CAI RANG – XEO QUYT

 
Day 1: SAIGON - BEN TRE - CANTHO (lunch, dinner)

Departure from your hotel around 8 :00. We cross part of the Mekong Delta to arrive in the Island of Ben Tre. Boating on the Ben Tre River to observe the life of the local people (visit of markets, small brick factory, coconut treatment factories, etc.). The boat continues on canals to reach Cai Son and Nhon Than, where we visit a family mat workshop. Stroll in the peaceful countryside and lunch in the home of Mr. Hai Hao.
 
On the Mekong
 

After lunch, we take a rowing boat on canals lined with water palm trees. Return to the car to take the small road No. 57, through orchards and Bonsai farms ; we then take a ferry and arrive at the town of Can Tho, where we have diner and spend the night in an elegant riverside hotel.


Day 2: FLOATING MARKET OF CAI RANG - XEO QUYT - SAIGON (breakf, lunch)

We start the day with the visit of the the famous Cai Rang Floating Market, where we sail among the large barges loaded with produces and the small boats of the buying retailers. Return on the road to drive to Xeo Quyt, where we visit an amazing complex of small canals and forts built by the Vietcong during the Vietnam War. Stroll through luxuriant swamps. After lunch, return to Saigon with visit of a Cao Dai temple on the road (or return to Can Tho for the Phu Quoc flight).

THE MEKONG DELTA IN 3 DAYS:  MY THO – BEN TRE AND OTHER ISLANDS – CAN THO

   
Day 1: SAIGON – SA DEC – TIGER ISLAND (lunch, dinner)

Departure from your hotel around 8:00 and we cross part of the Mekong Delta to the small town of Sa Dec, made famous by the French writer Marguerite Duras, who was born in Sa Dec, in her novel « The Lover ». We visit the Lover’s Mansion (Huynh Thuy Le) and the beautiful Kien An Cung Pagoda, Mandarin Quach’s ancient mansion (1926), where his descendants still live.

After lunch in a house of the Flower Nursery District, we continue our tour until the small river town of Long Xuyen, from which we take a ferry to the idyllic Tiger island (Cu Lao Ong Ho). Dinner and night in a charming homestay among plants, flowers and small channels.
 

Day 2 : TIGER ISLAND - LONG XUYEN MARKET - CAI BE (3 meals)

After breakfast, we ride a bicycle though Tiger island, among palm trees, banana trees, bougainvilleas and small channels. We then go the large Long Xuyen Market.
Lunch at the market, followed by the car ride to the small river town of Cai Be, where we have dinner and the night in a bungalow of the very elegant Mekong Lodge Eco-Resort.
   


 
 
Day 3: CAI BE – BEN TRE – SAIGON (breakf, lunch)

We first ride to the Island of Ben Tre. Boating on the Ben Tre River to observe the life of the local people (visit of markets, small brick factory, coconut treatment factories, etc.). THE MEKONG DELTA IN A SAMPAN : MY THO – BEN TRE – CAN THO – CAI RANG
(3 days)

This tour offers you the visit of some islands of the delta the first day, followed by a 2-day cruise on the sampan Bassac, on the maze of canals and Mekong branches, including one diner and night on board.


Day 1: CAR SAIGON- MY THO – BEN TRE - CAN THO (breakf, lunch)

    Departure from your hotel in Saigon around 8 am by private car, direction the Island of Ben Tre. Boating on the Ben Tre River et traversée d'une partie du delta du Mékong jusqu'à l'île de Ben Tre. Balade en bateau sur la rivière de Ben Tre, pour faire connaissance avec la vie de la population locale (visite de marchés, briqueterie artisanale, traitement de la noix de coco, etc.).

Continuation de la navigation sur les canaux jusqu'à Cai Son et Nhon Than, où nous visitons une fabrique familiale de nattes. Promenade à travers la paisible campagne. Déjeuner dans la maison privée de M. Hai Hao. Nous prenons ensuite la route de Can Tho. Relaxation, dîner et nuit à Can Tho.

 


Day 2: CRUISE ON THE SAMPAN BASSAC : CAN THO - VINH LONG - TRA ON (night on board) ) (3 meals)

The three Bassac are built of wood according to the tradition of the rice barges of the Mekong Delta. In fact, the Bassac I was one of those rice barges, transformed into a small cruise ship; although the Bassac II and III are entirely new hull studies and more suited to their present use, they were built by same craftsmen and according to the same tradition. The cabins are fitted with soundproofed partitions and double-pane windows to protect passengers' sleep from the sounds of the river. Those partitions also insulate from heat. The cabins are all equipped with air conditioning and their own bathroom.


Breakfast and boarding on the sampan Bassac. Welcome cocktail while we navigate down the Hau River. Lunch on board while we sail down the Nicolai Canal and the Mang Thit River towards Co Chien. . . Visit by foot or bicycle through orchards, with degustation of seasonal fruits. Return on the sampan and sailing on the Mekong, cocktail, and another delicious on board diner. Night on board.


Day 3: TRA ON – CANTHO – CAI RANG - SAIGON (or possibility of flying to Phu Quoc) (breakf, lunch)

Breakfast on board while the sampan sails on the Mekong towards Can Tho. We board a smaller craft to visit the famous Cai Rang Floating Market, where we sail among the large barges loaded with produces and the small boats of the buying retailers. We then land in Can Tho and drive back to Saigon (or we take you to Can Tho Airport for the Phu Quoc flight).

Day 1 : SAIGON - SADEC – TIGER ISLAND
(lunch, dinner)

Departure with driver and guide from your hotel around 8:00 and crossing of part of the Mekong Delta down to the small town of Sadec, famous by Marguerite Duras' novel «The Lover ». Visit of the Lover's House (Huynh Thuy Le) and the beautiful Kien An Cung Pagoda, the ancient house of Mandarin Quach (1926) and where his descendants still live.
 

Lunch in a homestay of the Sadec Horticultural District, and we then continue the road through the delta until the river town of Long Xuyen, from which a short ferry crossing leads us the the idyllic Tiger Island (Co Loa Ong Ho). Diner and night in a charming homestay among gardens and small channels.


Day 2 : TIGER ISLAND –LONG XUYEN MARKET – CAN THO (3 meals)

We start the day with a bicycle ride through the unspoiled island, among palm and banana trees, bougainvilleas, small channels and humpback bridges. We then take the ferry back to the Long Xuyen Market.

Lunch at the market and then drive to Can tho, the delta capital. Registration at your hotel, diner and night in Can Tho.
   



   
Day 3 : CAN THO - CAI RANG MARKET – AN BINH ISLAND (3 meals)

After breakfast, we go to the famous Cai Rang Floating Market, where we sail among the produce barges and crafts, and then take the road to the small river harbour of Vinh Long, where we take a ferry to An Binh Island.

Lunch on the terrace of the charming Ngoc Phuong Homestay.
 

After lunch, bicycle ride through the island, with visit of the beautiful Chua Thien Chau Pagoda and its orchid garden. Diner and night at the homestay. Day 4 : AN BINH ISLAND – CAI BE – SAIGON (breakf, lunch)

In the morning, we take another ferry to arrive at the small town of Cai Be. We take a boat to visit the Ancient Houses of the District of Dong Hoa Hiep, some dating back 1838 ; lunch in the house of Mr. Ba, built in 1938 among several acres of orchards.

Return to Saigon end of the afternoon.

THE MEKONG DELTA FROM SAIGON TO CHAU DOC (3 and 4 days)

    Chau Doc, located on the Hau River, a tributary of the Mekong River, is a border town between the south of Vietnam and Cambodia. A speedboat joins the town to Phnom Penh in 5 hours. We propose 3 itineraries for tourists who wish to go from Saigon to Cambodia exploring the entire Mekong Delta from east to west and using that boat to cross to Cambodia. The first tour is definitely “off-the-beaten-tracks”, with one night spent in a charming homestay in the idyllic Tiger Island. In the second one, more classic, you spend one night in an elegant hotel in the town of Can Tho, the “Capital” of the Mekong Delta. The third tour of 4 days includes 3 days on an elegant sampan sailing from Cai Be to Chau Doc.

Day 3 : TIGER ISLAND - LONG XUYEN FLOATING MARKET – CHAU DOC (3 meals)

  After breakfast, we ride a bicycle though Tiger island, among palm trees, banana trees, bougainvilleas and small channels. We then go the large Long Xuyen Market where we have lunch. We then ride to Chau Doc, where we arrive around 14:00. Visit of the town: The temple of the Country Queen (Bà Chúa Xứ), the Thoai Ngoc Hau Temple, the Tay An Pagoda, which combines Vietnamese and Indian architecture, and a Cham Mosque; Diner and night in Chau Doc.

Next morning, transfer at your charge to the pier for the navigation to Phnom Penh (boat departure at 7:30 and arrival in around 12:30).
   


TOUR II : SAIGON – CAI BE - CAN THO - CHAU DOC

This more classic tour includes the second night in an elegant riverside hotel in Can Tho and the visit on Day 3 of the famous Cai Rang Floating Market.

Continuation of the navigation on channels until Cai Son and Nhon Than, where we visit a family factory of bamboo mats; stroll through the countryside and lunch in the private house of Mr. Hai Hao.
 

We then take the road to Cai Be, a ferry across the river, and arrive at the very beautiful Mekong Lodge Eco-Resort, which spreads its bungalows amid luxuriant gardens alongside the Tien River. Relaxation, delicious diner and night in a bungalow.


Day 2 : CRUISE ON A SAMPAN : CAI BE – OHU AN – DONG HOA HIEP – VINH LONG – SA DEC (3 meals)

  Transfer from the hotel to the Cai Be Pier and embarkment in your elegant sampan. We strat the cruise with the visit of the Cai Be Floating Market among barges loaded with vegetables and fruits. We then visit with its owner a ancient Mandarin house dating 1890 and small factories of rice paste, coconut juice candies and others.

Delicious lunch at the elegant Le Longanier Restaurant, located in a superb colonial house on the river, among tropical gardens and orchards.

   

After lunch, we sail on the Tien Giang River, a branch of the Mekong, until the town of Sadec, passing alongside numerous islands; we then sail in a small channel, where we embark on small crafts to admire a village and its orchards. We then visit one of the delta largest brick and ceramic factories. We disembark in the colonial town of Sadec, where we visit the Nha Co House, which is the house of M. Huy Thuy, the Lover of the French writer Marguerite Duras in her novel of the same name.

Retour sur le sampan, délicieux diner et nuit à bord.


Day 3 : SAMPAN SA DEC – LONG XUYEN – CHO MOI (3 meals)

    We disembark after breakfast to continue the visit of Sa Dec: temples, 18th Century Common House, local market. We then return on the sampan and sail to Long Xuyen, a peaceful province capital, cruising among numerous boats loaded with all kinds of products: fruits, vegetables, fish, sand, etc.

Lunch on board, followed by a visit of the town and further navigation to the charming Tiger Island, where we visit the Museum of Ton Duc Thang, second President of Vietnam).

 

  We then sail North on the Mekong direction Chau Doc, with stops for small bicycle rides.

We have diner in an ancient house alongside the river in the suburbs of Cho Moi. Return on and night on board.
   

Day 4 : SAMPAN CHO MOI – CHAU DOC (3 meals)

Breakfast while we sail on a small affluent of the Mekong lined with family factories (sampan construction, bamboo mat weaving, etc.) and end-of-the 19th Century temples. We arrive around 11:00 in Chau Doc, a border town populated by Vietnamese, Chinese, Cham and khmer.

Disembarkment and transfer to your Chau Doc hotel. Lunch, followed by a guided visit of Chau Doc (market, pagoda, mosque, etc.). Diner and night in Chau Doc.


Day 5 : BATEAU RAPIDE CHAU DOC-PHNOM PENH (breakfast)

Transfer to the Chau Doc Pier to embark on the speedboat (departure around 7h30, arrival 5 hours later).

THE MEKONG DELTA FROM CHAU DOC TO SAIGON (3 and 4 days)

Chau Doc is a border town between the South of Vietnam and Cambodia, located on the Hau River, one of the tributaries of the Mekong River. A speedboat joins Phnom Penh to Chau Doc in 5 hours. We propose 2 itineraries for tourists who wish to go from Cambodia to Saigon using that boat to cross to Vietnam and then exploring the entire Mekong Delta from west to east all the way to Saigon. Day 2 : SAMPAN CRUISE CHAU DOC – LONG XUYEN (3 meals)
    After breakfast, we visit the Chau Doc Market and then go to the harbor by tuk tuk to board a sampan around 11:00 for a 2-day cruise.

It starts with the visit of a traditional Cham village, and then sails down the river among myriads of sampans loaded with all kinds of goods: fruits, vegetables, fish, sand, etc. and passing alongside islands. Before the village of Cho Moi, we take a small tributary of the Mekong, with stops to observe the local daily life and several 19th century temples.
 
Lunch on board and continuation of the cruise till Tiger Island (Cu Lao Ong Ho) ; visit of a local museum and arrival in the small town of Long Xuyen end of the afternoon. Diner in an old house alongside the river and night on board.


Day 3 : SAMPAN CRUISE LONG XUYEN – SADEC - DONG HOA HIEP ISLAND (3 meals)

  After breakfast, we visit the Long Xuyen Floating Market, the largest in the delta, and then cruise of the Tien Giang River to arrive at the charming town of Sa Dec, famous for its colonial houses and the birthplace of the French writer Marguerite Duras. Visit of the Huynh Thuy Mansion, the « Blue House » of her novel « The Lover »; lunch on board and continuation of the visit of the town: colonial houses, temples, 18th century Communal House, etc.

We then continue the cruise via Vinh Long. We then arrive at Dong Hoa Hiep Island, famous for its orchards. Bicycle ride through the island before diner and a second night on board.
   


Day 4 : DONG HOA HIEP – CAI BE - PHU AN - SAIGON (breakf, lunch)

Breakfast and visit of the Cai Be Floating Market, in front of a old church built in 1880. We then go to the Hamlet of Phu An, where you have a gastronomy lunch at the Longanier, a superb colonial house on the river bank. We then ride a car to Saigon (driver only; no guide), where we bring you to your hotel (please note that we can reserve the hotel for you).
